Comments:32nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Camp New Amsterdam, Soesterberg, could have been a military base like any other base in the European theatre, but it wasn't. I think what set us apart was the bond forged between ourselves and the local Dutch community. I was fortunate enough to be assigned there and may not have realized or acknowledged it at the time, but always in looking back, have an appreciation for being there.  It's been twenty-plus years now. I shared so many friendships, lives, events, moments that have now become memories, one could write a book about it. From 1954-2008, allied with the Dutch, we were Camp New Amsterdam. And those of us fortunate to have served there, at whatever point in time, will always be a part of it, and it a part of us. Tot ziens!

Comments:Hello G.I.'s & family. Maybe you remember me, I used to work in maintenance for base housing (Apollo, Gemini & Mercury). I used to organize blue-delft parties & I made the farewell plate. I got good memories of enjoying some drinks with in the O-club and the N.C.O. club and ofcourse the 4th of july's.  I still live in the old neighbourhood near basehousing. I wonder how you are doing. I still see some old friends from Soesterberg on my trips to the US.

Comments:I worked in the orderly room and with other assignments was the morning report at the 32nd Fighter Day Squadron. While I was there, on January 2, 1958 our commander formed a task force. We raided the 53rd Fighter Day Squadron in Bitburg AB, Germany and took their famous Tiger. We hauled it to Camp New Amsterdam, the 32nd FDS, and cut it's tail off and turned it around like it was when they took it from the Panther Squadron in Germany. Painted it our colors, green and white, and mounted it in front of the mess hall. A few months later the 53rd attacked us to get it back. I was on Mess Check that evening and the scene was a riot. We beat the crud out of those guys. There were bandages, cuts, torn clothing, slings and missing boots. They went back home without it... The base sure didn't look then, like it does in these photos. Came to the 32nd from Bitburg with my wife and baby boy. The mess hall was our jewel. The mess sergeant was #1. My OIC was Captain Gewertzman. Initiation was drinkin a beer and eating tulips.

Comments:I worked in the AVTR shop with Don Stuart, Dave Riedlinger, Reed Koehnen, Ross Paa, and Jo LePez. This was my first assignment after tech school and of course before I arrived at Soesterberg, I had no idea of how wonderful this assignment was going to be. Great base with a small town atmosphere and it was definitely a family. As far as the Netherlands: BEAUTIFUL country, wonderful and friendly people, excellent variety of food, great night life on the weekends, and I could go on and on but there's too much to list. In case they ever read this, I'd like to say HI to some great friends on base: Troy Clostio, Kathy Sherman (I'm assuming by now the "former" Kathy Sherman) and my former roomie Tom Elings. Also to some wonderful Dutch friends: Marieke and Suzanne Nieuwaal and their lovely parents (Marieke ended up marrying Troy), and Marieke's friend Stephanie. My supervisor was married to a lovely lady named Ilona, whose family was also very nice and more than hospitable. The day I lifted off from Schipol to go back stateside was a SAD day. I have memories that will certainly last a lifetime.  One day I hope to go back just to visit the place.

Comments:I figured that I may as well sign the guestbook after being pointed here concerning the museum F-15 refurbishment project. I was there from June 89 until almost the bitter end when we departed for RAF Lakenheath in Sept 1994. We saw a lot of changes in what now seems to have been a very short 5 years. Hands down the best assignment of my Air Force career and I am sorry I never got to finish the last 3 years of my second tour there. My family met a lot of good people, military, DoD and local. One day soon, I hope to get back for a long overdue visit to see how much things have changed..... and perhaps how many have not. I wonder if Kepas is still going strong. Best American style ribs outside
of the States I ever had and the site of our last family meal in Holland before leaving for England the next day. We took a kilo of Shwarma spice, packed with us from the Zwarte Market. I just used the last of it this past year. It is amazing how potent it still was after 14+ years. I even got fairly good at recreating the Knoflook sauce. It is surprising how much of an impact the special times at Soesterberg made on my life then and those echoes carry on still.

Comments:My very first assignment in USAF. Mess hall cook 1976-1978. I remember "The Quad", Spitfire bar, the scandal of 76, Steve Fillmore (My medic buddy), special Delft mugs for the annual Oktoberfest party at the NCO club, and working midnight chow. After my first four years I transferred into software development and completed a 20 year USAF career. Now live in Colorado and develop computer simulations for the Air Force. CNA will always be a special memory for me. Thanks for the site!

Comments:Hello fellow Wolfhounds! I was stationed at CNA from December 1976 to September 1979. I was not aware of the web site specifically for members of the 32nd TAC Fighter Squadron. However while browsing the web did a search on the 32nd and I found your site. Anyway, I was fresh out of tech school and worked in weapons loading. Over all I had a very good experience there. I am not sure where most of the friends I made while there are. But I would love to find a few of them. Well. Thanks for for time.
